cut the glow banner

Nesting female sea turtles and hatchlings are disorientated by artificial light. Disorientation results in turtles wandering onto land, potentially leading to death or injury.

The QLD Department Environment and Resource Management's cut the glow to help turtles go community awareness campaign aims to reduce the glow from lights affecting nesting sea turtles on beaches in the greater Bundaberg area.

During the breeding season from November to March, you can help by joining the campaign and following some easy guidelines to reduce light glow.

Visit the local turtle rookery at Mon Repos to learn all about how they lay eggs in the sands of local beaches.  Local community residents are asked to dim all outside lights to ensure the hatchlings make a safe journey to the ocean and not up the nearest light-pole!

Date claimer! June long weekend 2010 Lighthouse Festival !!!

Sponsored by Queensland Events

The Lighthouse Festival is a combination of Art and Music. Entrants are sought to compete for substantial prize money as amateurs and professionals.

In the Art section artists are encouraged to complete a painting with broad guidelines including the description "where the cane meets the ocean" whilst in the music section musicians will compete in sections of acoustic and acapella. Consequently the music is largely acoustic and not intrusive.

The Lighthouse Festival is a two-day event over the Queens Birthday weekend in 2010. The Festival will be held on the oceanfront South Head Parklands at Burnett Heads just 15kms from Bundaberg. The Festival will also encompass community style activities, food and beverage components and generally capitalise on the magnificent surroundings. visit www.lighthousefestival.com.au for full details.
