Oaks Beach named for the once abundant She Oak Trees is a valuable nesting location for Loggerhead turtles, with regular monitoring during the season by local volunteers and the Mon Repos Turtle Center. The groyne wall was established as a community project during the 1970's to encourage the build up of sand to replace the gravelly beach.
